Termite Swarming Season Is Coming Soon
When is termite season here in Springfield, MO? Subterranean termites will begin to swarm as the weather begins to warm up, usually at the beginning of spring after a rainy spill. These are termites looking to begin a new colony. Not all termite species swarm at the same time, but for a swarm to occur, the weather must be warm, often following a rain.
Termite swarmers can sometimes be confused with swarmer ants. A closer inspection can help you tell the difference. Termite swarmers have two pairs of wings that are equal in length, while one pair of the swarmer ant’s wings is shorter than the other pair. If you find winged insects swarming in your home, it’s wise to call in an expert to identify the pest and the extent of the problem, whether it is termite season or not
Don’t panic if swarming termites emerge from different areas in around your home. The swarming termites will drop and die in a short period of time. You will be able to vacuum them up or give them to us to take a look at. The reason you shouldn’t panic is that they won’t eat your wood. Fortunately for Springfield homeowners the swarmers don’t construct mud tubes or cause structural damage to wood.
Should you find termites swarming indoors after treatment is applied, do not feel that it was unsuccessful. Termite swarmers may be leaving the colony due to many different reasons. Sometimes a structural problem may exist which permits termites to avoid contacting the treated soil. For example, subterranean termite colonies can survive above ground with no soil contact if there is a sufficient water source available within. Leaking roofs, bathtubs, showers, dishwashers, and plumbing can be sources of water for termites. If you need any additional information, please feel free to contact us at Expert Pest Solutions.
